Emissions from landing, taxiing and take-off form a significant share of the total for short flights, and only a fraction for long flights. The figures also include non-CO₂ effects, which form a larger share particularly for long flights. Although there is still scientific uncertainty about the exact magnitude of these effects, their variation depending on location and atmospheric conditions, and the temporary nature of the effects compared with those of CO2, the non-CO₂ emission is determined using an average uplift factor (0.7) applied to the direct CO₂ emissions. The pure CO₂ emissions are on average about 50% lower than the values in CO₂ equivalents.
