About this factor
Publisher's descriptionmachine-translated
In this Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), rigid foam insulation products made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) from IVH members are described. EPS products from IVH members are used for the thermal and acoustic insulation of buildings. The insulation materials are manufactured at the factory in the form of boards or as a loose, thermally insulating fill material. This EPD describes white EPS rigid foam products with high bulk density for various fields of application such as, preferably, perimeter or plinth insulation. EPS rigid foam is a solid insulation material with a cellular structure, produced from fused, expanded polystyrene or one of its co-polymers. It has a closed-cell structure filled with air (98% air). EPS boards are rigid insulation products (cut, moulded or continuously foamed) with a rectangular shape. The board edges can be fitted with a rebated (step) joint or tongue and groove. EPS as a loose fill material is manufactured at the factory in the form of air-filled beads (Ø approx. 6 mm). This Environmental Product Declaration considers the homogeneous EPS insulation material without material combination into composite boards or laminated insulation boards. Key characteristic properties are thermal conductivity and compressive strength.
Included processes
EPS insulation boards are produced in a multi-stage manufacturing process. The raw material granulate is produced by raw material manufacturers and then further processed at the EPS insulation manufacturer's sites without the addition of further substances. The processing of EPS granulate into foamed insulation boards consists of the steps pre-foaming, intermediate storage and foaming, the latter usually in block moulds. During pre-foaming, the granulate is pre-expanded with the help of steam. The expanded granulate is then temporarily stored in air-permeable silos. The air diffusing in there gives the EPS foam particles the stability they need for further processing. The EPS foam particles are then filled into cuboid block moulds and foamed at 110 °C to 120 °C by steam. The blocks are then demoulded and deposited before being cut into dimensionally stable boards using automated cutting equipment. The boards described in this EPD with an average gross density of 30 kg/m³ are preferably used in the perimeter area, in contact with the ground, and as base insulation, WAS. Production waste is 100% reused for the production of primary material. Technical data: Performance values of the product according to the declaration of performance in relation to its essential characteristics according to /EN 13163:2012/+A1:2015 - Thermal insulation products for buildings - Factory made expanded polystyrene (EPS) products - Specification. Declared unit: The declared unit is 1 m³ of insulation board with an apparent density of 30 kg/m³.
Applicability
The main areas of application for the products declared here are perimeter and base insulation as well as flat roof and floor insulation with very high compressive strength. Minimum requirements for flat roof, floor and base insulation are described in DIN 4108-10, according to the types DAA ds, DEO ds and WAS. DAA ds: external insulation of roof or ceiling, protected from weathering, insulation under waterproofing; very high compressive strength DEO ds: interior insulation of ceiling or floor slab (top side) under screed without soundproofing requirements; very high compressive load capacity WAS: Exterior insulation of the wall in the splash water area, also with partial integration into the soil, plinth Minimum requirements for perimeter products of this environmental product declaration are described in the European Assessment Document EAD 040773-00-1201.
