Biodiesel FAME

The CO₂ emissions during use are set equal to zero, because of the short-cycle nature of the carbon in these fuels. CO₂ is indeed released, but it does not contribute to the enhanced greenhouse effect. This is included under the biogenic emissions heading. Combustion of biodiesel does result in small amounts of emissions of other greenhouse gases, which are included in the TTW. The emissions from production (WTT) of the fuel arise from the upgrading of used oil and transport. The emissions during use (TTW) result from methane released during combustion. Energy content/calorific value = 37.5 MJ/kg or 33.02 MJ/litre. Density = 0.88 kg/litre
