Emission factor from UOS v7.0.1

Hot water - National average, five-year mean 2020 to 2024

Iceland · Well-to-use · Any year

Each m³ processed of heat or steam bought counts as 0.447 kg CO₂e. UOS gives one figure, for use in any year.

Value for any year

Where 0.447 comes from

Published as one number

UOS prints this factor as a single figure, with no parts to add up and no split by gas.

Reporting this cubic metre under the GHG Protocol

Scope 2 + Scope 3, category 3 0.447

This one figure covers both together; no split between them is given.

You buy the energy, so its generation is your Scope 2.

The fuel behind it and the energy lost on the way to you are Scope 3, category 3.

What this number covers

The path of 1 m³ processed of heat, from the fuel to your meter. Every step on it is counted.

  1. Heat generation

Producing the heat and steam at the plants that feed the network

    Included, not split out
  2. Network losses

Heat lost in the pipes between the plant and your meter, which still had to be produced

    Included, not split out
  3. Your record

1 m³ processed in your records. The factor is per m³ processed.

    = 0.447

Outside this boundary

About this factor

From UOS
