Save factors to come back to

The bookmark mark beside a row puts a factor on a shortlist of your own: the factors for one report, or one client, ready to find again next week. Saving needs a free account, and the shortlist follows the account rather than the browser you saved from.

Save a factor#

Every row in factor search opens with a bookmark mark in the gutter, to the left of the activity. Click it to save the factor, and click it again to take it off the list. A factor page carries the same control as a worded button, Save this factor, next to Cite. From the keyboard, put the cursor on a row and press S: see working the list from the keyboard.

Saving is one of the things a free account opens, alongside exporting and downloading a library. Press the mark while signed out and nothing is lost: a prompt invites you to create the account, and your search, your filters and the page address stay exactly as they were.

Note. The mark has two states and no third one. There is no "save again": a press on a factor already on the list takes it off, whether you press the mark or the S key.

What a save records#

A save records the factor, not the number in front of you. What it stores is the factor's slug, resolved to the current one at the moment you save, so saving from an old address keeps the identifier factor search uses today. A slug that changes after that is not followed: the factor drops out of the Saved filter and its mark reads unsaved, so save it again under the new address. It records one more thing, which nothing yet reads back: the year and the GWP methodology you were looking at when you pressed.

Coming back does not restore your view. Your saved factors are drawn under the filters then in force, which by default means Latest value and the factor's leading GWP methodology, not the year or the methodology that was on screen when you saved. If the value you want is not the one the factor leads with, set that year or that methodology again, or keep the whole view as a link: see link to a view.

Watch out. A save does not freeze a number. When the publisher issues a new edition that revises the factor, your saved factor resolves to the new value, and what you read on return can differ from what you saved. Write the value you used into your inventory, and see pin a factor value to a release for coming back to the exact number.

Find what you saved#

Saved factors are not a separate page. They are a filter over the list you are already looking at: the pill row above the results opens with Saved, and the count on it is the size of your own saved set, not the number of results on screen. Turn it on and the list keeps only the factors you saved. The search box, the Filters rail and the sort all keep working, so you can search inside your shortlist.

In the page address the filter is saved=1. It resolves against whoever opens the link, so a colleague following it sees their own saved factors and not yours. To show someone your selection, send them a filtered view or the export below.

Export your shortlist#

With the Saved pill on, Export above the list carries the saved filter into the file, so you get your shortlist rather than the whole filtered list. The columns, the licence columns and the attribution line are the same as in any other export: see export to a spreadsheet.
