Overview

Kiwa-Ecobility Experts is the EPD programme of Kiwa GmbH in Germany. Manufacturers from Germany and the rest of Europe publish third-party verified EPDs under its rules: insulation, mortars and plasters, concrete products, windows and doors, membranes, timber and building services. The programme's site is kiwa.com.

Its digital datasets are published in the ILCD+EPD format on the soda4LCA node kiwa.lca-data.com, the same format and interface ÖKOBAUDAT uses.

Methodology

How this works
  • Values are global warming potential per declared unit (per kg, m³, m², m or piece), reported per life cycle module: A1-A3 product stage, A4-A5 construction, B1-B7 use, C1-C4 end of life, and D, benefits beyond the system boundary.
  • Every dataset follows EN 15804+A2, with the EF 3.0 or EF 3.1 characterisation, and the served number is GWP-fossil, with the total, biogenic and land use parts kept beside it.
  • No breakdown by gas is published, so the values cannot be restated in AR6.
  • Each EPD gets one total over the modules it declares, built the same way as for ÖKOBAUDAT: cradle to gate for A1-A3, cradle to grave when every A to C module is declared. Where the EPD prints A1, A2 and A3 without their sum, the cradle to gate total is their sum; where it prints the sum, the parts are linked under it. Module D is shown beside the total, never added to it.
  • Where an EPD declares more than one end-of-life scenario, for example one per country, each is kept, and the one it names as standard is served by default.
  • The reference year is the dataset's own reference year, which on this node is the year of the data, usually one or two years before the EPD was published. 142 datasets state none; they are dated two years before their publication date, the node's usual gap, and the two without a publication date two years before their entry date.
  • Most datasets are product or manufacturer specific; the rest are averages over several plants, products or members of a sector association.

Mixed: the EPD's declared ILCD reference year, which is a data year on Kiwa-EE and most often the year the EPD was published on the other nodes. An EPD that states none is dated off its own publication or entry date.

What we import

  • The node as harvested on 2026-10-02: 393 of the 728 datasets it lists, one factor per module.
  • The 335 datasets that are also published in ÖKOBAUDAT are served there and not loaded twice.
  • The declaration owner is shown as the supplier.
  • Each dataset is placed in an open-climate.ai category, read from the ÖKOBAUDAT product classes most datasets carry, and otherwise from its product name.
  • Values declared per tonne or another amount are converted to the declared unit.
  • Not imported: the EN 15804 indicators other than GWP.
  • Names are as published, most in English. 31 datasets carry a German name only; they are shown in our English translation, marked as translated, with the German name kept.

Open. Kiwa-Ecobility Experts' general programme instructions (revision 04) do not restrict the use of published EPD data, and every dataset on the node states it is free of charge for all users and uses. The instructions publish each EPD with its owner's consent (section 8.1.2) and deliver the datasets in the ILCD+EPD format to the ECO Portal (Annex B1, section 2.7.3). • Some product names carry a model code that reads like a year. They are loaded as published.
