Overview

EPD Ireland is the national EPD programme of the Irish Green Building Council (IGBC). Manufacturers from Ireland and the United Kingdom publish third-party verified EPDs under its rules: cement, ready-mixed and precast concrete, aggregates, blocks, insulation, timber, steel and building services. The council's site is igbc.ie.

Its digital datasets are published in the ILCD+EPD format on the soda4LCA node epdireland.lca-data.com, the same format and interface ÖKOBAUDAT uses.

Methodology

How this works
  • Values are global warming potential per declared unit (per kg, m³, m², m or piece), reported per life cycle module: A1-A3 product stage, A4-A5 construction, B1-B7 use, C1-C4 end of life, and D, benefits beyond the system boundary.
  • 318 datasets follow EN 15804+A2 with the EF 3.0 characterisation, and the served number is GWP-fossil, with the total, biogenic and land use parts kept beside it. The other 64 follow EN 15804+A1 and print a single total, which we serve and flag.
  • No breakdown by gas is published, so the values cannot be restated in AR6.
  • Each EPD gets one total over the modules it declares, built the same way as for ÖKOBAUDAT: cradle to gate for A1-A3, cradle to grave when every A to C module is declared. Most EPD Ireland datasets print A1, A2 and A3 without their sum, so the cradle to gate total is their sum; the few that print the sum are served as published. Module D is shown beside the total, never added to it.
  • 88 datasets declare only the modules after the factory gate: transport, installation, use and end of life. Their C1-C4 modules are summed into one end-of-life total, and the others are served as published. With no product stage, they get no total over every module, so they never stand in for a product's footprint.
  • The reference year is the dataset's own reference year.
  • Nearly every dataset is product or manufacturer specific; 32 are averages over several plants or products.

Mixed: the EPD's declared ILCD reference year, which is a data year on Kiwa-EE and most often the year the EPD was published on the other nodes. An EPD that states none is dated off its own publication or entry date.

What we import

  • The node as harvested on 2026-10-02: 382 of the 397 datasets it lists, one factor per module.
  • The declaration owner is shown as the supplier.
  • EPD Ireland's datasets carry no product classification, so each one is placed in an open-climate.ai category read from its product name.
  • Values declared per tonne or another amount are converted to the declared unit.
  • Not imported: 15 datasets with no GWP result, and the EN 15804 indicators other than GWP.
  • Names are published in English, as we show them.

Open. EPD Ireland's programme instructions do not restrict the use of published EPD data, and every dataset on the node states it is free of charge for all users and uses. The instructions publish the datasets "to assist the integration of the data into tools such as Building Level LCA calculators or other analysis tools" (section 6.1). Limitations

  • 44 datasets are past their validity date. The node still lists them, so they are loaded; check an EPD's validity date before use.
  • 2 datasets state no location. They are placed in the world as a whole, and marked as an assigned location, not a published one.
  • Four balcony systems print an A1 GWP-fossil that their own total, biogenic and land use parts contradict, with no way to tell which number was meant. Those values, and the totals built on them, are flagged as problematic and not served.
