Overview

The Environmental Declaration of Products (환경성적표지) is Korea's national EPD programme, run by KEITI under the Ministry of Environment. A manufacturer has its product's life cycle assessment verified and receives a certificate valid for three years. Certified products range from ready-mixed concrete and building panels to beverages, appliances and electricity.

KEITI publishes the list of valid certificates, with each product's results, as an open file on the national open data portal, data.go.kr. The programme's own site is ecosq.or.kr.

Public Data Act (공공데이터의 제공 및 이용 활성화에 관한 법률) art. 3(4): a public body may not prohibit or restrict the use of public data, commercial use included. KEITI's dataset page for 환경성적표지 유효 인증현황 (data.go.kr 15089157) states 이용허락범위 제한 없음 (no limit on the scope of use). No KOGL mark is shown (keiti_epd_korea).

Methodology

How this works
  • Values are the product's carbon footprint in kg CO2e per declared unit (per kg, litre, m², m, kWh or piece), as printed on the certificate.
  • Characterisation follows the programme guideline, which uses the IPCC Second Assessment Report 100-year factors (methane 21, nitrous oxide 310). The values cannot be restated in AR6, because no breakdown by gas is published.
  • Biogenic CO2 from combustion, incineration and landfill is excluded, as the guideline requires.
  • The register prints the footprint per stage: pre-manufacturing (raw materials and inbound transport), manufacturing, use and disposal. Each product's total is shown with its stages as parts.
  • The boundary is read from the stages a product reports: cradle to grave when it reports a use stage, cradle to grave without use when it reports disposal only, cradle to gate otherwise. Production goods leave disposal out by rule.
  • The reference year is the year the certificate starts. The guideline requires one year of data from within the two years before the application.
  • Every value is product specific: it is the certified result of one manufacturer for one product.

Publication year: the year the EPD's certification starts. The data year behind it is at most that year and is not printed.

What we import

  • The register file dated 2026-06-30: 3,460 certified products from 675 companies, with 7,435 stage values.
  • One factor per certificate and product name. A product renewed under the same certificate number keeps its factor and gains a new value.
  • Stage values are linked to the product total. A product that reports a single non-zero stage is served as its total alone.
  • The certificate's start and end dates are kept as the publisher's validity window.
  • Units printed per tonne, cubic metre, gigajoule or gallon are converted to kg, litre or kWh. Counting units (piece, bottle, bag, box, set) are served per unit.
  • The manufacturer is shown as the supplier.
  • Not imported: 11 rows declared per passenger trip or per route, which have no physical unit, and the six other impact indicators the register prints (resource depletion, ozone depletion, acidification, eutrophication, photochemical ozone and water).
  • Names are in Korean, as published.

Open. Under Korea's Public Data Act (article 3, paragraph 4), a public body may not prohibit or restrict the commercial use of its public data, and the dataset page states no restriction on the scope of use ("이용허락범위 제한 없음").

Limitations

  • The file lists valid certificates only. Some certificates in it reached their end date after the file was published and are still shown; check the validity window before use.
  • A certificate cancelled before its end date is announced on the programme's site only and is not reflected here.
  • Factory location is not published in the file, so every factor is placed in Korea as a whole.
  • A few products are certified twice by the same company with identical values, under two certificate numbers.
  • Some products in the energy-using class are named by a model code only, so they are classified as manufactured goods without a finer category.
  • Use-stage values for energy-using products include the energy used over the product's life, so they can be large per piece.
